BeetlesAttra® is an adult chafer beetle trap which uses an attractant lure to capture both male and female chafer beetles – making it ideal for monitoring chafer populations.
The funnel trap design will intercept the beetles mid-flight, leaving them to slip into the funnel. Careful trap design makes it impossible for them to escape.
Chafer beetle funnel traps with attractant lures are an effective method of monitoring or, in smaller areas such as gardens, controlling chafer beetle populations. The attractant in the traps encourages both male and female chafer beetles to fly toward the traps and slip into the funnel.
Bionema’s isolated lure attracts both sexes, making this ideal for monitoring chafer beetle populations in your local landscape. Keeping weekly records is key during adult emergence to help identify whether further control is required before they become a serious problem.
Traps should be set from mid-May until the end of June – the peak period for adult chafer flight. Traps should be set 10-15cm into the turf to intercept at flight level and can be held up by attaching to a retention stick.
Set-Up
Unpack the lures, remove the red seal cap, pull the fins to one side and slip lure bottle through the hole in fins and fix with diffuser cap. The trap is now ready for use.
The theory behind our design follows a simple three-step process:
BeetlesAttra® can help monitor adult chafer populations and over smaller areas, help reduce populations. Once caught, adult chafer beetle species should be identified, and a record kept in the event further action is required.
